Colonel Allan Swartzmiller is the Commander of the 914th Airlift Wing, Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, New York. He leads a wing composed of three groups, 11 squadrons and four flights strategically located on Western New York's Canadian border between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. The wing's mission is to recruit, train and equip Rapid Global Mobility forces for the Theater or Joint Force Commander. Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station is one of the first Air Force Reserve Command-Air National Guard Associations sharing 12 C-130 H2 aircraft and their support. The 914 AW is host to approximately 3,000 assigned military, civil service and contract personnel.

A native of Chesaning, Michigan, Colonel Swartzmiller earned a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and his officer commission through AFROTC. Colonel Swartzmiller has worked a variety of assignments in both the Regular Air Force and in the Air Force Reserve . An experienced C-130 evaluator pilot, he deployed in support of Operation JUST CAUSE and attended advanced flight schools at both the Combat Airlift Training School and the Advanced Airlift Tactical Training Center. In 1996 he was selected as Initial Cadre for the C-17 weapon system and worked its Initial Operational Capability through the Fully Operational Capable declarations and the standup of the first Formal Training Squadron. In 1998 he joined the 315th Airlift Wing and held several key positions within the wing including the Chief of Tactics, Chief of Current Operations, Squadron Operations Officer and Deputy Group Commander. In August 2005 he was selected as the 934th Operations Group Commander. There he led the unit through multiple successful inspections and deployments to include the first Exercise RED FLAG-Alaska as the Air Expeditionary Group Commander. In March 2009 he was selected as Commander of the 914th Airlift Wing where he led the new ARC association to fully operational status and also deployed to Southwest Asia as the AFCENT Deputy DIRMOBFOR.
