Andrew Caya 914th Airlift Wing Public Affairs NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION -- The 914th Airlift Wing conducted a Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Stand-Down Day, July 14 as a part of the Unit Training Assembly here. The day's events included a wing-level commander's call followed by interactive training sessions at the different squadrons on station. SAPR Stand-Down Training is a directive from top Air Force officials to stop and take time to address the sexual assault issues in the military, reflect on those problems and what we can do differently to change it, said 914th Airlift Wing Sexual Assault Response Coordinator Nikki Slaughter. Combating sexist behaviors, harassment and assault starts with firmly establishing a climate of respect, wrote General Mark Welsh III, The Air Force Chief of Staff in a memorandum. The call and group training included the squadrons partaking in discussion questions and scenarios that helped illustrate the need to address this issue, Slaughter said. It's all about awareness. The wing does different training events on this issue throughout the year but in light of recent events involving an increase of media coverage of sexual assault in the military, we want to bring more attention to this issue and have sexual assault prevention at the forefront in the minds of the Airmen, she said. 914th personnel also received refresher training on professional responsibilities, ethics, critical duties and standards, and how violations of the standards impact mission readiness. Air Force leadership wants the Airmen to use this time and understand that sexual assault is everyone's problem to solve and that all Airmen are part of the solution.
