Airman earns local award

NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION, N.Y. --  A Niagara Airman received the 914th Airlift Wing Top Three Group Performer of the Quarter Award for the first quarter of 2013, here June 1.
 
Senior Airman Nathan Rogers, a financial management specialist, earned this award for his numerous contributions to the wing.

Rogers was named a key worker in the conversion of the finance section files from hardcopy to digital. He also assisted Air Force, Navy, Army reservists and retirees with military and travel pay questions. In 90 days Rogers processed an average of 100 financial transactions per day, for a total of 9,000 transactions; essentially eliminated backlog for the finance section.

In addition to his primary duties, Rogers assisted a fellow Airman in earning their 5-level skill set, and is the Rising Six Treasurer and is very involved in the group's internal and external outreach programs.

The Top Three Group Performers--Non-Commissioned Officer and Airman categories--provide an opportunity for the E1-E6 members to nominate one another for these awards for the respective categories, said Senior Master Sgt. Glen Ignasiak, 914th Airlift Wing Top Three Group president. The objective of this program is to promote creative and strong award packages, foster morale, and provide an avenue for peers to recognize their fellow Airmen.

"NCOs can nominate Airmen, Airmen can nominate NCOs and Officers can nominate both NCOs and Airmen," said Ignasiak.

It also provides the junior NCOs and Airmen the avenue to learn and build on their writing skills for awards, recommendations for PEP and performance reports, added Ignasiak.

It's always nice to get recognized for accomplishing the mission, said Rogers. Awards like this will help supervisors and wingmen recognize Airmen who are doing a good job and help build their military resume.

Nominations must be submitted no later than the close of business on Saturday of the January, April, July, and October Unit Training Assemblies. The nominations will cover accomplishments that occurred during the three months prior to submission. An example of this would be nominations submitted in January will cover accomplishments achieved during the previous three month period, October - December.

Nomination packages should include an AF Form 1206 in a maximum 8 bullet format detailing leadership and job performance in primary duty, significant self-improvement, and base and community involvement.

Award recipients are selected by a four person committee from the Top Three Group.
