Thanks to the Air Force's replenishment program of replacing old with the new, the Base Fitness Center has received new equipment to "Pump You Up".

Twenty five pieces of equipment were installed in December 2011 to include: Life Fitness "selectorized" machines, Hammer Strength free weight equipment, Cybex Arc Trainers, and Total Body Resistance Exercise, TRX, suspension trainer.

The latest installation of Life Fitness equipment includes revolutionized machines for better muscular movement using converging and diverging axes technology. This correctly aligns with the user's joint movement, providing a natural and comfortable feel throughout the range of motion. Be cautious though, you may feel the motion better than in the past and you may elect to start with a lower weight amount until you become familiar with the equipment.

Additionally, there are new easy to turn dials on the weight stacks to adjust weights by 5 lbs increments up to 15 lbs. The new Hammer Strength machines replaced the old ISO Lateral Bench Press, Incline Press, and Decline Press.

Kinesis One from TechnoGym helps improve balance, strength, and flexibility through a low impact exercise. This means you can accomplish a full body workout with low impact for those with joint problems or possible rehabilitation needs. This machine is great for individuals just beginning to exercise or want to avoid high impact exercising. The full gravity technology allows users to move tridimensional with even resistance. Used properly, the machine is good for all ages and is wheel chair accessible. Kinesis One works upper body, trunk, and lower body for a great workout.

The Dual Adjustable Pulley is not just another pulley system; it has an innovative Power Mode system which permits options for the user. The new elastic band cables allow for smoother pulls and releases. The Power Mode tab located on top of the weight stacks allows the machine to adjust for members wanting to use the pulleys for speed and power movements. This option eliminates the negative inertia created by the weight stack when pulled and released quickly during this type of movement. The Dual Adjustable Pulley also easily works upper body, trunk, and lower body.

We also have a TRX Suspension Trainer, tactical workforce straps which focus on mobility strength, agility, and conditioning through natural body movement. Movements are easily progressed or regressed to match ability level. These movements when done correctly concentrate on the core. Make sure to have a spotter when conducting these movements to start to ensure proper forms is being used.

As always with new equipment, if you have questions, please ask. An equipment orientation can be scheduled with a Fitness Staff member by contacting the Fitness Center at 236-2101.
