Niagara Firefighter earns Impact Player of the Year

NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION, N.Y. --  This year's winner of the 914th Airlift Wing Impact Player of the Year Award was presented to Assistant Fire Chief Aaron McLane for his Incident Action Plan in support of the 2011 Thunder of Niagara Air Show.

McLane's plan coordinated the capabilities and staffing of 21 local, state, and federal agencies totaling more than 240 emergency responders for the air show' s operational periods. The coordination was accomplished through detailed planning with other representatives; identifying each agency's capabilities, and then assigning each agency to one of the five emergency response divisions. These efforts culminated in an all-hazards emergency response team dedicated to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for more than 150,000 guests and performers.

" When Col. Swartzmiller selects you as his impact player, it's both an honor and it's humbling," said McLane. "I remember some of the previous winners like Bob Williams and Capt. Pizziconi-Cupples. I know the contributions each of them makes to the Niagara Team, to be recognized as someone who contributes as much as them gives me a real sense of achievement."

McLane's fellow Niagara firefighters express delight in congratulating one of their own.

Mr. Peter Stein, Assistant Fire Chief of Operations said, "The 914th Fire and Emergency Services Management Team is extremely proud of Assistant Chief Aaron McLane. Aaron is a solid performer, an outstanding Fire Officer, coupled with his positive attitude, strategic vision and his professional excellence makes him a vital member of this department and the 914th Airlift Wing. The entire Fire Department congratulates Chief McLane on receiving this prestigious award.

The award is presented annually to the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station full time employee who has made the greatest impact on the Mission, Morale, and Welfare of the 914th Airlift Wing.
