Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, NY. -- A ribbon cutting ceremony for the newest facility on the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station took place, on base November, 3.

The Armed Forces Reserve Center will be home to the newest tenants on the installation. The new troops moving in include two U.S. Army Reserve medical units, a quartermaster company, and a New York Army National Guard infantry company.

The Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station is truly becoming a joint service installation where other branches of service and federal agencies are combining their resources to become good stewards of the tax payers' dollars. Since 2005 when the base was taken off the BRAC list, it has thrived and expanded while also contributing to WNY economy.

On May 13, 2005, the base realignment and closure commission placed the NFARS on the consideration list for closure. At the same time, they recommended that the Army Reserve Station on Porter Road, Niagara Falls be torn down and a new facility built in its place.

A recommendation to place the Army Reserve Station within the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station was promoted by the Niagara Military Affairs Council and other military support groups as an effort to strengthen the military viability of the Air Reserve Station.

In August 2005, the BRAC commission recommended that the NFARS remain open and that the Army Reserve Station be relocated to the Air Reserve Station.

It is estimated that 600 Army Reserve and New York National Guard personnel will utilize the new complex on rotating schedules.

The complex is now home to Soldiers from the following units:

Army Reserve- 277th Quartermaster Company

Army Reserve- 865th Combat Support Hospital

Army Reserve- 1982nd Medical Detachment

New York National Guard- 2nd Battalion, 101st Cavalry Regiment
