During the October Unit Training Assembly, Niagara Air Force reservists had the opportunity to meet with the commander of the Air Force Reserve Command October 2, here at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, N.Y.

As part of his "East Coast Tour," Lt. Gen. Charles Stenner will visit reserve wings across the east coast to meet Airmen under his command and listen to their questions, concerns and ideas.

The General spent several hours with his troops from the 914th Airlift Wing. He toured the installation facilities and engaged Airmen in a standing-room only town hall meeting, in which he was able to connect with them about different issues regarding the Air Force Reserve way of life.

Stenner was also given a mission brief by both the 107th (Air National Guard) and 914th Airlift Wings' leadership and gave praise about how well the two units were associating together. The General also mentored the staff on different aspects and issues between the Guard and Reserve association.

While speaking to the audience of Airmen, the General stated that he was very impressed with the way the association between the New York Air National Guard's 107th Airlift Wing and the Air Force Reserve 914th Airlift Wing was progressing and stated that Niagara is a benchmark for others to follow.

"[Niagara] took two premier organizations, one Reserve, one Guard and put them together and made it work because you understood that there was a mission to do...We didn't tell you how to do it, you just did it; and once you got it done we put it together and said yes, this is how you do it."

914th Airlift Wing Commander Col. Allan Swartzmiller was pleased to show the AFRC Commander how far the troops, unit and installation have come during the association with the 107th Airlift Wing.

"I think General Stenner was pleasantly surprised with Niagara," Swartzmiller said. "He sees the statistic on us along with the other wings routinely, but actually seeing what we've done here with our association, our installation's contributions to the warfighter, and the care we've given our facilities were all positively mentioned during his visit."
