914th Airlift Wing honors law enforcement

NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION, N.Y. --  Last week, 914th Airlift Wing Security Forces Airmen and Department of Defense Police Officers were honored during National Police Week.

National Police Week, which occurs each year during the week in which May 15 falls, recognizes the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement.

Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Niagara's Senior Leadership took part in honoring those who protect America's Air Force.

Throughout last week, Colonel Swartzmiller performed force protection duties such as ID checks and attend security briefings to better understand and get a firsthand look at the base's first line of defense.

The Airmen and Civilians did not just stay on the installation during this special week. 914th Airlift Wing Security Forces have attended many law-enforcement activities in the local community.

Earlier during the week 914th Security Police Officer Rich Schildwaster and Security Forces Specialist Tech. Sgt. John Perry attended a vigil in the village of Lewiston honoring police officers throughout Western New York and the Nation.
The Niagara's presence was found in other places as well.

Joining other law enforcement agencies, 914th Security Police Officer Rick Oliver and Senior Airman Shane Williams went to the Outlet Mall in Niagara Falls N.Y. and set up a table with multiple weapons systems utilized by U.S. military personnel. The two security members explained the different weapons to passerby and handed out coloring books and other materials to children.

Although police week only lasted several days, Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station is always protected by the 914th Airlift Wing Airmen and Civilian Security Forces.
