NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION, N.Y. -- When it comes to Foreign Object Debris (FOD) it's not a walk in the park, but a walk on the flightline. Typically aircraft maintainers and safety personnel are the individuals who perform this reoccurring task.

Master Sgt. Jim Palumbo QA Inspector for the 107th Airlift Wing whose job it is to inspect maintenance on the flightline and the supporting maintenance shops explained why this walk is necessary. "A FOD Walk is done to help protect the aircraft and individuals who are working on the flightline. He added, "FOD is a big factor in not having the aircraft complete its mission. Larger engines will ingest the rocks or metal debris and cause some major damage to the aircraft engine".

Palumbo said they have expanded this weekly tasking to include other volunteers from around the base to help keep FOD to a minimum.
