The junior Senator from NY pledged to get behind efforts to preserve and promote the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, during a brief visit to the installation Friday, March 25.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, D-NY toured this Air Force facility and pledged to do what it takes to keep the installation off future Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC) listings.

"What's most exciting is during these very tough economic times, this base has so much opportunity for economic growth," Gillibrand said. "It's something that creates opportunity not only for our reserve but for all of the security forces we desperately need to keep our country safe. The support work that's done here is quite extraordinary."

It can be said that the installation is undergoing an upgrade and "make-over" period. Earlier in the week, Niagara Falls ARS hosted a ground-breaking ceremony for a new indoor small-arms firing range. During her visit, Senator Gillibrand saw continued construction work at Niagara's new multi-million dollar Community Activity Center and toured one of the base' s lodging facilities.

914th Airlift Wing Vice-Commander Col. Mark Murphy said, "It's important for the base to educate congressional delegations about what the Airmen are doing on the base and what we need in the future to make this installation the premier training and military platform for Western New York."

The senator stated it is very important for the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station to stay open because it supports both military and civilian jobs in the community. To do that, the senator stated that she would continue to push for investment dollars to ensure that the facility is well-equipped and offering the best services possible to the troops.
