NFARS respond to local HAZMAT incident

NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION, N.Y. --  The Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station Firefighters responded to an off base incident in the town of Wheatfield, N.Y. Friday Feb 4 2010.

Because of the standing Mutual Aide agreement between the Niagara Air Reserve Station and the local communities, more than 10 Niagara Airmen and civilians responded to the incident which contained Hazardous Materials.

Bergholtz Assistant Fire Chief Brian Kroening, the Incident commander stated that the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station was instrumental in assisting with this incident.

"The Air Station is right here and they have the HAZMAT capacities...its perfect when they come and help out." Asst Chief Kroening said. "[The Airmen] are a valuable resource and they are right there across the Airfield and we like to take advantage of their [assistance]."
One worker was injured during this incident and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

This incident is under investigation.
