JAG launches new website to help Airmen Published Dec. 15, 2010 By Senior Airman Chelsea Gitzen 914th Airlift Wing Public Affairs NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION, N.Y, -- The Air Force Legal Assistance website, created earlier this year, has served as a helpful tool to ease the stress of members seeking to resolve legal matters and to relieve some of the workload of the 914th Airlift Wing Judge Advocate General team. "The next time members need a will, power of attorney or just have a legal question, they can visit the new Air Force Legal Assistance website," said Maj. Michael DiValentino, 914th Airlift Wing JAG. "The feedback that we've received from members so far has been very positive. This site is an efficient tool that can be used by all members." The Air Force Legal Assistance website was developed to provide a means to expedite the process of obtaining various legal documents. Through the website, clients may review and provide preliminary information for legal documents. This website has lowered the number of trips a client must make to a legal office, as well as has reduced the amount of time a client must spend in a base legal office to obtain those instruments. The website is designed for active duty members, reservists, retirees and dependents. Because it is a public site, members may access the site's features from their home without the need of a common access card. Acting Wing Commander Col. Mark touched on the fact that Airmen along with their superiors have a big role in the deployment process. "It is the responsibility of each member, section head and commander to complete pre-deployment processing requirements in a timely manner so they may concentrate on their combat role as the deployment date approaches," said Murphy. "Part of those pre-deployment requirements are making certain each members individual financial responsibilities will be meet while deployed and their families given the proper tools to execute those responsibilities. Murphy also emphasized the websites importance for easing the deployment process for the Airman and the JAG. "The new JAG web based application site allows the member to give the JAG accurate information in advance, resulting in more accurate and timely accomplishment of papers to ensure the financial survival of the member and their family. This allows the member to concentrate on their deployed mission without distractions." While the website increases the convenience of obtaining legal assistance, everyone should note the following: --Information on the website is for educational and informational purposes only. The website cannot replace consultation with your local Judge Advocate General, and Airmen should never rely solely on the website when making decisions. --Clients will not have the ability to print a legal document from the website. Clients will need to visit the legal office and provide their ticket numbers in order to obtain their legal documents. --The website is designed for client convenience, but no one is required to use the website prior to visiting the legal office.
