Country singer Amanda Nagurney, a former Orchard Park, Ny. resident, treated Niagara Airmen to a free concert during the 914th Airlift Wing Holiday Party Dec. 4.
This performance is just one way that the singer, currently getting ready to tour the country with her band, has given back to the military community.
"We really appreciate what military members do for our country," said Cindy Nagurney, Ms. Nagurney's mother. "People have been coming up to us and thanking us for being here, but we enjoy thanking you all for your service."
Members of the wing enjoyed the concert and Ms. Nagurney's participation.
"I thought that Amanda and her band did a great job during her performance," said Senior Airman Brandon Callahan, 914 AW paralegal apprentice. "It's great that she cares so much about giving back to servicemembers, and that she contributes to morale-building events such as our Wing Holiday Party."
Ms. Nagurney is no stranger to military life. Her grandfather, Nicholas Nagurney, who served in World War II, made an appearance in "Time" magazine and in the novel "Halsey's Typhoon" for his experiences and bravery during his time in the Navy.
"My husband's father served in WWII," said Mrs. Nagurney. "He had incredible stories that he told us. It was great that he was able to do that for his country, and Amanda is really proud of her grandfather and all servicemembers."
Ms. Nagurney plans on continuing to play in the local area whenever possible, and to start touring with her band across the country.
"Amanda is asked to come back to this area and perform all the time," said Mrs. Nagurney. "Last summer she opened up for Sarah Evans at Art Park. She just got her band together in Nashville, Tn., and they're going to start touring."
