Fallen Soldier returns home

The honorable transfer of the remains of a Fort Drum Soldier from Williamsville, NY, who died of wounds in Afghanistan, occurred at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station November 12.

An Honor Guard from the 10th Mountain Division, Airmen of the 914th Airlift Wing, United States Air Force Reserve and the 107th Airlift Wing, New York Air National Guard, as well as members of the Patriot Guard Riders paid their respects to U.S. Army Spc. Blake D. Whipple while his remains were received by his family here after being honorably transferred  from Dover Air Force Base, Del.

Whipple died of wounds in Afghanistan on Nov. 5 when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. Whipple was a member of the 7th Engineering Battalion of the 10th Sustainment Brigade of the 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum, NY.
