914th Airlift Wing stands up new squadron

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. --  The ceremony for the creation of the 914th Force Support Squadron and the deactivation of the 914th Services Squadron, held Nov. 7, marked the beginning of a new partnership for members of the 914th Mission Support Flight and 914 SVS.

"Effective Oct. 15, the 914 SVS stood down and the 914 MSF has been designated as the 914 FSS," said Captain Kenneth Enser, 914 FSS operations officer. "In doing that, 914 SVS and 914 MSF then become one [unit]. [The 914 FSS] now handles all of the Airmen support functions 'from cradle to grave.'"

With a change of this magnitude, seamless transition is a priority to enable a minimum affect on members of both units.

"It shouldn't affect Airmen at all," said Enser. "If anything, morale should improve. The former 914 SVS has an awesome sense of espirit de corps in their organization and we welcome that to our unit. Any time you can adopt an organization that's already strong; it can't do anything but help. Members of both the former 914 SVS and the 914 FSS have excellent strengths that they will share."

This flawless transition was acquired through diligent preparation and participation by all involved members and leadership.

"We contributed a lot of time preparing for this change," said Enser. "We spent months conducting research and formulating a plan to suggest to command."

Though strenuous, this transition has and will continue to notably strengthen the mission completion of the merged units.

"This changeover will benefit the 914th Wing as a whole in the respect that this new unit will effectively serve as a 'one stop shop' for all support needs," said Enser. "We are taking two organizations that are strong already and merging them into one, so we have nowhere to go but up from here."

With such a transition already under their belt, members of the 107th Airlift Wing lent their diverse perspective providing insight to members of both units prior to this merge.
"We've always had a good rapport with the 107 AW," said Enser. "We had multiple discussions in the monthly commander's meeting where members of the 107 AW would contribute as to what had worked for them and what had not."

The future goals of this new unit include maximizing their proficiency by utilizing their diverse backgrounds and excellent teamwork skills.

"I look forward to a good working relationship throughout our unit and with other units across the installation," said Maj Paul Delano, 914 Force Support Squadron commander. "This change makes a lot of sense in a deployed environment as well as on the home front; making us both more efficient and more competent."
