Air Force Single Staffing Tool

Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station --  In his Presidential Order, President Barack Obama directed that all federal employers must meet government-wide mandates to simplify the hiring process. Effective Nov. 15, the Air Force will begin using the Single Staffing Tool standardized process to hire people at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station and most bases across the Air Force.

The SST is resume based. Managers will no longer receive a career brief for internal applicants and a resume for external applicants. All applicants will have equitable consideration.

All Air Force job vacancies will be listed on the USAJOBS website http://www.usajobs.gov where all internal and external applicants applying for a government job will be required to submit a resume.

The Air Force Personnel Center will screen all of the resumes to determine who meets the eligibility and qualification requirements. AFPC will then send the requesting manager a single list with all of the qualified internal and external applicants.

If you have several jobs for which you are qualified, you can store up to five resumes for up to a year on theUSAJOBS website. You would create resumes to highlight your skills and abilities. Doing it this way means you don't have to change your resume each time you apply for a different job. You would simply choose among your five resumes for the one pertinent to the job you are applying for.

To ease the transition to SST, the civilian personnel office expects to receive business cards from AFPC to distribute, with information from writing resumes to how to apply for jobs.

The new www.afciviliancareers.com website has extensive information on all aspects of civilian service including information on how to apply for jobs. USAJOBS has tutorials available for first-time applicants, along with assistance on writing a resume. To assist you in preparing your resume you can get a copy of your career brief by going to the AFPC secure website https://w20.afpc.randolph.af.mil/afpcsecurenet20/CheckPortal.aspx.
