A mass enlistment ceremony of civilians into the United States Air Force Reserve was held at Old Fort Niagara, Youngstown, NY., during the Old Fort Niagara "Revolutionary War Encampment Reenactment" Oct. 9 2010.

Enlistees had the unique opportunity to be sworn in on a historic local battlefield that holds a significant place in the history of our nation's freedom. Members of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station Honor Guard provided the presentation of the colors in front of those attending this event.

Lt. Col. Kelvin McElroy of the 914th Airlift Wing administered the oath to the group which included existing unit members wishing to extend their current enlistment. Lt. Col. McElroy expressed his feelings for the location of the event by saying, "This place was chosen because there's so much history here. It's like bringing yesterday to today. And the men who served during that time are doing exactly what these men and women are doing today to protect their country."

Federal law requires that everyone who enlists or re-enlists in the Armed Forces of the United States must take the Oath of Enlistment. The Oath of Enlistment is administered by any commissioned officer to any person enlisting or re-enlisting for a term of service into any branch of the military.
