As of August 15, the 914th Security Forces Squadron has the capability to run Light Detection and Ranging on base and will begin to utilize the radar to ensure that base personnel are adhering to the posted speed limits. All personnel who travel the roads of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station that on base just like off base we are all subject to traffic laws. Obey stop signs and speed limit postings just like you would if you where traveling on public roadways. LIDAR is an optical remote sensing technology that measures properties of scattered light to find range and/or other information of a target. The common method to determine distance to an object or surface is to use laser pulses. Like the similar radar technology, which uses radio waves, the range to an object is determined by measuring the time delay between transmission of a pulse and detection of the reflected signal.
