Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station Fire Department Responds to another HAZMAT call

NIAGARA FALLS,NY --  The Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station Fire Department responded to a hazardous material incident that occurred on the Queenstown-Lewiston Bridge, NY as a part of the base's mutual-aid agreement with local community response teams.

Firefighters from the 914th Airlift Wing trained in HAZMAT were called on scene early in the afternoon on June 4 to assist their civilian counterparts in the detection and remediation of an alleged chemical leak from a tanker truck processing through customs.

Because the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station has the training and equipment necessary to combat such a leak the Airmen were the first and only responders inside the area.

After a series of tests, the HAZMAT team found no chemical had been leaked or spilled.
There were no damages or injuries during this incident.

The NFARS fire department has extensive training in scenarios just like this. Earlier this month the base fire department participated with local departments in a simulated HAZMAT scenario on the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, NY.
