For much of the Northeast section of the United States it has been a bitterly cold winter, but the Air Force mission continues here at Niagara despite the cold.

The extreme cold combined with snow has made it one of the least tolerable winters in recent memory.

However, according to weather records for the Niagara Falls International Airport which have been recorded since 1960 the average daily low for January is 17 degrees with a high of 30 degrees. Last month January 2014 we reached a low of -4 degrees and a high of 50 degrees. The coldest on record was -15 set in 1996 and 65 degrees set in 2005. The total snowfall for the month of January 2014 was 26.10 inches. The record was 65.30 inches set in 2010.

It certainly has not been the coldest or had the most snowfall, but because of the early snow and lower than average temps back in December it is fresh on everyone's mind.
