NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION, N.Y. -- The 914th Fire Department conducted an annual burn, Saturday, September 17, 2016. The burn refers to training which includes staging a controlled fire in a mock aircraft. Fire fighters have to then safely control and extinguish the fire, starting with the exterior, then entering the aircraft frame. The training is intended to prepare Fire Department personnel for a real world situation.
"We get to come out and put water on real fire, to climb on actual buildings, use actual equipment, instead of doing computer based training," said Staff Sgt. Kurt Mommertz, 914 Civil Engineer Squadron, Fire Department, "It's nice to keep our skillsets fresh."
30 firefighters were involved in the training which fulfilled a portion of their annual training.
