Base personnel gathered to honor Master Sgt. John Chapman in a ceremony on August 24, 2018. Chapman was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for heroic actions on March 4, 2002. Keeping with Air Force tradition, Chapman was posthumously promoted to the rank of Master Sgt.
