What's in a name?
Colonel Mark Larson (left), 914th Air Refueling Wing commander, poses for a photo along with (front row L - R) Col. Erik Aufderheide, 914th ARW vice commander, Lt. Col. Christopher Pfeil, 914th Operations Support Squadron commander, Lt. Col. Amy Johannsen, 914th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron commander, (Back row L- R) Tech. Sgt. Jarrett Mock, 914th AMXS crew chief and Lt. Col. Albert Knapp, 914th Maintenance Group deputy commander next to the KC-135R Stratotanker that bears Col. Larson's name at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, N.Y. on August 8, 2019. The unit is reviving a tradition to dedicate the pride of the fleet to the wing commander. That, along with nose art has been around in the Air Force since WWI where crew members and crew chiefs names were stenciled on the aircraft as it was felt that it improved morale especially during war time. Tech. Sgt. Mock's name will also be added to the aircraft under the commander, as well as nose art as soon as approvals for the nose art are given by Air Force Reserve Command headquarters.
